Pay Range: $30.00 - $75.00 per hour

Summary:

The Research Scientist conducts advanced experiments in breast cancer biology, analyzes and reports findings, and contributes to high-impact publications and grant proposals. This role manages day-to-day laboratory operations, ensures safety and compliance, and supports collaborative research that advances discoveries in breast cancer. The Research Scientist upholds the mission, vision, and values of Rush while adhering to all institutional policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a biological science or related field. Highly experienced Master’s degree candidates with preferred qualifications may be considered.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status).
  • Minimum 3 years of laboratory research experience.
  • Prior experience working specifically in cancer research.
  • Proficiency in molecular and cell biology techniques including:
    • Immunohistochemistry
    • Next-generation sequencing
    • Real-time PCR
    • Cell culture
    • Western blotting
    • Molecular cloning (e.g., plasmid design, construct validation)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills including technical writing.
  • Competence with standard software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain high attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent).
  • Experience analyzing large biological datasets using tools such as R, Python, and pathway analysis platforms.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis using programs such as SAS, SPSS, or PRISM.
  • Experience with mouse work including colony management, implanting tumor xenografts, drug dosing, monitoring, and tissue collection.
Responsibilities
  • Design, execute, and document research studies using molecular, cellular, and animal models.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data and proactively communicate results to the research team.
  • Manage laboratory operations including workflow organization, equipment maintenance, and supply inventory.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all experimental work.
  • Train and support laboratory personnel, including students and residents.
  • Contribute to the writing and preparation of manuscripts, posters, presentations, and grant applications, with potential opportunities for authorship.
  • Collaborate with statisticians, research coordinators, and multidisciplinary partners to advance experimental goals.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment in accordance with institutional and government regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
