We’re hiring a Core Specialist at the Northwestern University Sequencing (NUSeq) Core Facility!

NUSeq is the only genomics core facility at Northwestern, supporting both the Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago and the Evanston Campus, as well as external academic and industrial organizations. With a user base of 2,600 researchers across 1,000 research groups, NUSeq plays a pivotal role in enabling high‑impact science across diverse disciplines.

This position is ideal for a genomics technology enthusiast eager to work at the forefront of next‑generation sequencing (NGS), enabling world‑class discoveries in a highly collaborative and innovation‑driven environment at Northwestern.

The facility houses a fleet of state‑of‑the‑art sequencing platforms, including Illumina Nova Seq X Plus, Element AVITI, Pac Bio Revio, Nanopore, and more. We are also deeply invested in emerging technologies, including single cell multiomics (since 2017) and spatial transcriptomics (since 2021). NUSeq processes high volumes of samples across a wide range of applications, including RNA‑seq, whole genome and exome sequencing, ChIP‑seq, ATAC‑seq, methyl‑seq, microbiome profiling, and more.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute and optimize NGS library preparation workflows
  • Operate and maintain advanced sequencing platforms
  • Prepare and deliver high‑quality data
  • Troubleshoot and improve protocols
  • Help implement new genomics technologies
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience with NGS library preparation
  • Strong attention to details and troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with multiple library types (e.g., RNA‑seq, ChIP‑seq, WGS/WES, spatial transcriptomics)
  • Familiarity with emerging genomics technologies
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
