Position SummaryPlanning, Sustainability and Project Management (PSPM) at UIC seeks a Sustainability Data Graduate Hourly Employee, to coordinate PSPM sustainability's data collection efforts under the direction of the UIC Director of Sustainability. The Graduate Hourly may also collect data for an annual greenhouse gas emissions inventory for UIC, or collect, analyze, and visualize data for UIC's CCAP Data Portal Under the direction of UIC Carbon Neutral Program Director.
The graduate hourly employee is expected to work 20 hours/week during UIC's Summer session and fall semester. Work will be primarily remote, with some in-person meetings on UIC's Chicago campus.
Duties & Responsibilities- FData retrieval and compilation, including:
Building energy and water use, utility energy use, commuting habits, university populations, buildings, and budgets, biodiversity, teaching, learning, and research activities, waste management, and others as required for future STARS applications and GHG footprint. - Coordinate UIC’s efforts to achieve STARS Gold
- Establish and maintain an online data portal for STARS data with Sustainability staff.
- Data entry into SIMAP®, a carbon and nitrogen-accounting platform that can track, analyze, and improve campus-wide sustainability.
- Generation of reports and material for presentations, as requested by supervisor.
- Mentor one or two undergraduate internships in the Sustainability Internship Program.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Data analysis and visualization in Microsoft Excel or Power BI, or Tableau.
- Ability to work independently and with UIC staff across several units.
- Strong communication skills including emails, remote and in-person meetings.
- Coursework related to sustainability, energy, planning, or engineering.
- Familiarity with third-party assessment, or rating program- (for example-LEED, ISO standards, or similar)
