Research Technician

The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies. Within the Section of Hematology/Oncology, the Franses laboratory is dedicated to understanding how the tumor microenvironment (non-cancer cells present within tumors) impact tumor behavior, and how we can exploit this knowledge for improved therapies or biomarkers.

The laboratory uses cell and animal model systems, molecular biology tools (in cultured cells and animal models), and state-of-the-art translational tools such as spatial 'omics' to probe tumor biology.

The Research Technician will provide support for all aspects of laboratory research in the Franses Laboratory.

Responsibilities
  • Assistance in the planning and execution of experiments.
  • Develop expertise in the use and maintenance of novel instruments that the lab obtains.
  • Serve as a specialist on laboratory methods and equipment functions.
  • Data analysis using Excel and other statistical software.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering.

Experience:

  • Previous research experience.
  • Experience with various cellular and molecular biology techniques, e.g., cell culture, western blotting, PCR.
Preferred Competencies
  • Strong organization skills, administrative skills, and time management skills.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and develop mastery of new instrumentation.
  • Experience with basic office/lab computer software, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point.
