About the Department

Public Health Sciences (PHS) is the home for the core quantitative research fields in public health: biostatistics, epidemiology and health services research. Our faculty lead research projects in these fields and participate in interdisciplinary teams with faculty in other departments to address complex problems in health and healthcare in our communities and around the globe. Our mission is to improve the health of human populations and reduce differences in health by expanding knowledge of factors that affect health, advancing methods for carrying out such research, and training the next generation of innovative public health scholars and professionals.

Job Summary

The Clinical Senior Research Assistant will oversee key aspects of clinical research studies, including subject recruitment, data collection, and the development and maintenance of databases. The role also involves data analysis to interpret findings and contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication. The Clinical Research Assistant will manage day-to-day project tasks, ensuring timelines are met and study protocols are followed.

The Clinical Research Assistant will work closely with the PI and research teams to maintain high standards of quality and compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This position requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to support both the scientific and operational aspects of research.

This at‑will position is wholly or partially funded by extramural funds (e.g., grant, gift, endowment). Employment is contingent upon the continued receipt of these extramural funds and satisfactory job performance. If this position is eliminated due to the discontinuation of extramural funding, the employee will be given a minimum of one pay period’s written notice (two weeks) or pay in‑lieu of notice.

The position is not eligible for employer-sponsored employment authorization.

Responsibilities
  • Develop epidemiology questionnaires and study protocols.
  • Build and maintain databases using REDCap.
  • Prepare IRB submissions.
  • Recruit study subjects and collect data.
  • Retrieve and review clinical and laboratory results from EPIC.
  • Perform data analysis for progress reports.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts for publication.
  • Provide general administrative support (e.g., literature reviews, study reports).
  • Perform all tasks in basic clinical studies.
  • Assist with and perform various administrative and operational tasks as assigned under direct supervision.
  • Support quality assurance reviews conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or designated review groups.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of clinical studies to collect analyzable clinical research data and/or samples.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field (four‑year degree not required).
Work Experience
  • Less than two years of experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MPH degree.
  • Experience with clinical research study recruitment.
  • Data analysis work experience.
  • Contribution to the preparation of scientific manuscripts.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid work arrangements will be considered.
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $21.63 – $26.44 per hour.
