Position Overview

The Fabric Development Technician builds the samples that the R&D team depends on for current and next‑generation technologies. You will produce swatches and test articles, run in‑house performance tests, support pilot and external production runs, and manage the flow of samples and data. The role offers ownership, variety, and collaboration with engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities
  • Build samples and run tests:
    • Cut, prepare, and condition swatches and test articles to repeatable methods.
    • Run the in‑house performance proxy test; capture, record, and report results cleanly.
    • Perform small‑scale lamination property testing and support material for pilot and external runs.
    • Prepare and analyze materials according to documented SOPs.
  • Run the pilot line equipment:
    • Operate Numat's pilot processing equipment hands‑on—spunbond, meltblown nonwoven lines, and lamination machine—including setup, production runs, changeovers, and routine adjustments.
    • Produce in‑house nonwoven and laminated material for current and next‑generation development.
  • Manage samples, data, and inventory:
    • Prepare, document, and ship samples to external partners; reconcile returned samples.
    • Enter test and run data accurately and on time for engineers and technologists.
    • Maintain the sample library and consumable inventory with full chain‑of‑custody.
  • Maintain equipment and improve workflow:
    • Observe health, safety, and quality policies.
    • Perform routine preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and vendor service coordination; keep equipment calibrated.
    • Drive workflow improvements to raise throughput and organize the lab.
    • Remain flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical field (materials, chemistry, engineering, or related) or equivalent hands‑on experience.
  • Hands‑on laboratory or production experience, including sample fabrication, preparation, or fixturing.
  • Experience operating processing or production equipment, with mechanical comfort for setup, run, and adjustment.
  • Strong organization and data discipline; comfort owning inventory, records, and chain‑of‑custody.
  • Mechanical aptitude for routine equipment maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
  • Precise, procedure‑driven work style and a team‑first attitude.
  • Familiarity with quality control and assurance principles is favorable.
  • Effective oral and written communication with internal customers.
  • Strong team player able to cooperate with R&D, Operations, Quality, and Business teams.
  • Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
