Research Assistant Iii

Duties and Responsibilities

• Establishing and maintaining a bacterial evolution experiment with E. coli
  , including daily maintenance and transfers.
• Measuring genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of evolved bacterial populations.
• Maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.
• Supervising undergraduate students during experiments.
• Analyzing experimental data.

Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, or a related field and one to two years of research experience in microbiology or evolutionary biology.

• Strong organizational skills and intellectual curiosity.
• Three years of research experience (or comparable).
• Proficiency with sterile culture techniques and microbial evolution experiments.
• Data analysis skills in Excel, R, and Unix command line.
• Basic molecular biology techniques.
• Availability to work weekend hours periodically.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Repetitive motions and handling of small biological samples.

Irregular hours requiring weekend lab work on a periodic basis.
