Visiting Quantum Lab Specialist - Illinois Quantum and Microelectrics Park

This position will be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement but will require regular presence in Chicago.

The Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) is a first-of-its-kind park for quantum scale-up and related quantum and advanced microelectronics research and development. Minutes away from downtown Chicago along Lake Michigan, this site will:
1) build on a track record of historic investment by the State in quantum information science and technology, and
2) further establish Illinois as a global hub for quantum. The park is designed to support the full ecosystem of companies, researchers, suppliers, end users and other partners working to facilitate the development and commercialization of quantum technologies, including the world's first fault-tolerant computers. Work collaboratively with Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) team members and partners to develop an ecosystem that includes private-sector companies engaging in research, development, and product deployment; user facilities and infrastructure; and workforce development programs.

• Provide day-to-day support of quantum lab space and infrastructure outfitting, including assembly of subcomponent enabling technologies and other associated quantum lab needs.
• Work directly with IQMP Quantum Program Managers and IQMP leadership to ensure IQMP on-ramp lab functionality and procedures.
• Help with managing usage of shared equipment, lab consumables, and other inventory.
• Coordinate with facility stakeholders to plan for storage and clear out after equipment installation.

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, a physical science, or a field related to quantum science and information.

• Demonstrated experience working in physical research labs (such as physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and/or materials science).
• Demonstrated experience establishing cooperative relationships with internal and external colleagues and collaborators.

• Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, and Slack.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to follow multiple detailed directions of various protocols and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and creatively.

This is a 100% full-time visiting Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. At the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the "visiting" designation is used for positions that are established for a limited duration based on current programmatic, operational, or funding needs. The designation does not affect the nature of the work or the role's importance within the department. While the position is currently designated as visiting, there may be an opportunity for it to become permanent in the future.
