Student Retail Assistant

Job Summary

The New Store, The New School's official campus retail store, is seeking a Federal Work Study student employee to support daily store operations. This role involves customer service, sales transactions, merchandising, event support, and inventory management.

• Sales & Transaction Management:
  Register transactions accurately, including sales, returns, and general packing of merchandise.
• Merchandising & Store Presentation:
  Execute daily stock maintenance by ensuring all merchandise and fixtures are displayed, replenished, and clean.
• Customer Service & Engagement:
  Respond to customer inquiries, assist customers in making selections, and create a positive and memorable experience for students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Operational Communication & Escalation:
  Escalate store needs, merchandise issues, new ideas, and customer feedback to the Store Manager & Associate Director.
• E-Commerce & Order Fulfillment:
  Assist in fulfilling online orders.
• Inventory Management:
  Participate in inventory counts and cycle counts.
• Professional Conduct & Compliance:
  Maintain a professional and positive presence on the sales floor and comply with all scheduling and attendance policies.
• Institutional Knowledge:
  Stay current on school events and be knowledgeable of the school layout.
• Events & Off‑Site Support:
  Staff pop‑up events at other locations and affiliated retail events.
• Additional Responsibilities:
  Perform other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

• Retail sales experience preferred but not required.
• Committed to delivering a high level of customer service.
• Strong verbal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to perform physical tasks as needed – lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work a POS and Inventory Management Systems.

• Retail experience preferred but not required.

• Work Mode:
  On campus, in‑person position based on campus to support effective collaboration and engagement.
• Hourly Rate: $18.00 per hour.
