The Assistant Manager role at Fairplay Neighborhood Market is a full‑time, on‑site position located in the Greater Chicago Area. This role supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily store operations, including supervising staff, managing schedules, and ensuring consistent customer service standards. The Assistant Manager helps monitor inventory levels, supports merchandising and store presentation, and assists with opening and closing procedures. This position also contributes to training team members, enforcing safety and operational policies, and addressing customer concerns promptly and professionally.
The Assistant Manager collaborates with leadership to meet sales goals, control costs, and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient store environment.
- Experience in grocery, retail, or customer service environments, with the ability to deliver friendly, efficient, and professional service.
- Supervisory or team lead experience, including staff scheduling, task delegation, and performance feedback.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced setting.
- Basic knowledge of inventory control, merchandising, and cash‑handling procedures.
- Clear, respectful communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Comfort with learning and using point‑of‑sale systems and other store technology.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform moderate physical tasks such as lifting, stocking, and moving products, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in business, retail management, or related fields is a plus.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
