We are a third-generation, family-owned and operated Steel Service Center located in Chicago, seeking an experienced, results-driven sales professional with an established book of business. This role is ideal for a steel salesperson who values strong customer relationships, responsive service, and is motivated to grow both existing accounts and develop new business.
The successful candidate will leverage current customer relationships while actively expanding their customer base. This position works closely with Upper Management and Operations to ensure accurate communication, strong execution, and high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and grow an existing book of business while identifying and developing new customer opportunities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries, issues, and material challenges
- Provide accurate pricing, order entry, and customer follow-up to support service and repeat business
- Coordinate with Production to ensure clear communication, on-time execution, and customer satisfaction
- Maintain organized and accurate customer and sales activity documentation using CRM tools
- Stay current on company products, capabilities, market conditions, and internal procedures to better serve customers
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience in steel/metal industry sales (service center experience preferred)
- Existing book of business / established customer relationships strongly preferred
- Proven ability to grow accounts and develop new business
- Strong phone presence with excellent customer communication and follow-up skills
- Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Excel
- Strong organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team setting
