The RoleThe Business Development Consultant will join the sales team for Morningstar Investment Management, Inc. (MIM), a registered investment advisor. The consultant works with the Divisional Sales Director to increase advisory business within an assigned territory by building relationships with advisors. The position is based in the Chicago office with a required four days a week in‑office.
Responsibilities- Identify and develop relationships with new advisors within an assigned territory.
- Work with the current advisor base within the territory to help them grow their book of business and wallet share.
- Use Salesforce (CRM) to document prospecting efforts, relationship management, and track pipeline.
- Influence, persuade, and educate advisors on the benefits of various investment offerings and assist in case design for client circumstances.
- Be conversant in all aspects of the managed portfolios program.
- Exhibit strong presentation skills via virtual meetings, phone, and written communication.
- Assist the Divisional Sales Director in scheduling meetings and run virtual meetings independently.
- Interact with the Portfolio Specialist and Investment Management team as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of two years related industry experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop sales relationships with financial advisors over phone and virtual meetings
- Strong interest in and ability to explain portfolio management concepts
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- SIE registration or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment
- Series 65/Series 66 registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Total Cash Compensation Range (Base Salary + Target Commission): $83,225 – $127,625
