We are the leading provider of professional services to the middle market globally. We are seeking a Business Development Director in the Chicago and surrounding market to drive growth within the Industrial Products / Consumer Products industry segments.

Responsibilities
  • Sourcing and qualifying opportunities with companies currently not served by the firm.
  • Executing the sales plan and process, coordinating internal and external resources to position the firm for success.
  • Actively networking through industry contacts, professional affiliations, and groups.
  • Building and maintaining strong sales pipelines and forecasts associated with substantiated opportunities.
  • Collaborating with professional staff to address marketplace needs in a coordinated fashion.
  • Working with industry team leaders to identify and target key companies.
  • Supporting partners, principals, directors, and senior managers in cross‑selling additional services to existing clients.
  • Partnering with local and national marketing resources to develop effective, targeted go‑to‑market plans.
  • Providing ongoing feedback to the National Sales Organization regarding market opportunities.
  • Preparing and facilitating presentations and proposals; closing sales and finalizing agreements with clients.
  • Identifying and leading a coordinated, cross‑functional team to pursue all aspects of potential market opportunities.
  • Leveraging key industry and technical resources to deploy on new opportunities.
  • Collaborating with other RSM professionals to deliver the full suite of services.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience selling professional services to middle‑market corporations (revenue $20million to over $1billion).
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple industries and orchestrating diverse teams to craft solutions.
  • Ability to manage complex sales cycles from identification to close.
  • Experience leading multi‑member sales processes involving C‑suite decision makers.
  • Strong network of Centers of Influence (banking, legal, other professional services) that can be leveraged to identify opportunities.
  • Proficiency in proposal and Statement of Work creation.
  • Experience with CRM tools for reporting and sales tracking.
  • Familiarity with social media technologies for networking purposes.
  • Excellent influence, negotiation skills, executive presence, and business acumen.
  • Self‑motivated, disciplined, with strong time‑management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated community involvement and activity with industry associations.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working for large regional or national professional service firms.
  • Desire to work in a fast‑charging sales team with large growth objectives.
  • Active network of C‑level contacts.
Compensation

Base salary range: $136,800 – $242,000. Eligible for sales commissions and discretionary bonuses based on individual and firm performance.
