Job Summary

The client is seeking a motivated and results-driven Sales / Business Development Manager to lead new business development efforts and expand strategic referral partnerships. This role is responsible for identifying opportunities, generating leads, and closing profitable projects within the custom integration and smart technology market. The ideal candidate will proactively build relationships with builders, architects, designers, developers, brokers, and other trade partners to create a consistent pipeline of revenue opportunities.

Internal estimators and engineers will support proposal creation and technical scoping, allowing this role to remain focused on sales strategy, relationship management, and closing deals.

  • Competitive base salary of $60,000 – $85,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

  • Uncapped commission structure at 5% performance-based commission on all closed sales. On projects that achieve a minimum 35% gross margin. 3% — (company-generated pipeline) 5% — Self-generated leads (net- new client relationships brought by the salesperson)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop new business opportunities through strategic outreach and relationship-building

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with architects, builders, designers, developers, brokers, and related trade professionals

  • Build a consistent pipeline of qualified prospects and referral sources

  • Prospect actively through networking, cold outreach, industry events, and relationship cultivation

  • Meet with prospective residential and commercial clients throughout the Chicago market

  • Present company products, services, and differentiators effectively

  • Collaborate with internal engineering and estimating teams to develop winning proposals

  • Negotiate and close profitable projects while maintaining target margins

  • Maintain accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting

  • Achieve sales goals of approximately $1M in revenue within the first year

  • Maintain minimum gross margin targets on all projects

  • Represent the company at networking, trade, and industry events

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a customer-facing sales or business development role

  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals

  • Experience selling to trade partners such as architects, builders, developers, designers, or brokers preferred

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfortable discussing technical products and solutions with clients

  • Highly self-motivated with strong initiative and drive

  • Strong relationship-building and networking abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams

  • Audio-visual, electronics, construction technology, or smart home industry experience is a strong plus

  • Associate degree or higher preferred, or equivalent professional experience
