Harold Washington College
, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, is located in the heart of Chicago’s Loop and serves over 9,000 students in college credit and continuing education programs. Primary Objectives

This position supports the activities in the security department by directing the activities of part‑time security officers and assistants. The position reports to the Director of Security or the Assistant Director. Applicants will promote an atmosphere conducive to learning by enforcing all District policies, State and Municipal criminal statutes, and safety and security measures to protect campus property and reduce liability.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Review daily time and attendance cards to ensure accurate hours worked.
  • Ensure employees adhere to the policies of the District and department.
  • Ensure employees are trained and capable of performing their duties.
  • Ensure employees are stationed at all posts and present a proper appearance.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures of the District are followed by students, faculty, staff and visitors.
  • Patrol building and grounds to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Respond to alarms and service calls and take appropriate actions.
  • Inspect and inventory department equipment, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Write reports as required.
  • May make an arrest.
  • Appear in court as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Direct: Security Officers, Security Assistants

Indirect: None

Qualifications
  • Full‑time police officer or prior State or Municipal law enforcement experience.
  • Preferably one year supervisory experience with a State or Municipal law enforcement agency.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Knowledge of State and Municipal criminal statutes and arrest procedures.
  • No criminal convictions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Self‑motivated, prompt, and punctual.
Physical Requirements
  • Regular foot patrol of the entire campus area on a full shift.
  • Run or jog for short periods during emergencies and non‑emergencies.
  • Stand at an assigned post for extended periods.
  • Quickly climb and descend stairs to respond to emergencies.
  • Physically restrain and remove a person using appropriate force.
  • Bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, and reach in all directions.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate security equipment including radios, cameras, telephones, fire alarm panel, fire extinguisher, and 2‑way radios.
  • Drive and operate CCC vehicles.
  • Perform CPR and first aid, including operating AED equipment.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
Salary Range

$25.18 per hour, per the Local 1600 union contract. Final salary will be determined by education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
