Overview
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) presents more than 5,000 years of art from around the world for all visitors, in two iconic locations in New York City and through an online experience. Responsibilities and Duties- Enforce museum rules of conduct for visitors.
- Ensure that the public, museum staff, and contractors comply with security regulations to prevent theft, fire, damage, and personal injury.
- Prevent disorder and overcrowding.
- Direct visitors to bag inspection tables.
- Inspect packages and bags entering the museum.
- Monitor and report safety conditions.
- Perform coat‑checking and elevator operation.
- Check packages of people and staff leaving the museum.
- Provide escort for transportation of art to and from shipping points.
- Perform any other duties as directed by the Manager of Security and any additional duties assigned.
- Organization skills preferred.
- Excellent communication skills preferred.
- Ability to stand for sustained periods of time, maneuver up and down flights of stairs multiple times during a shift, bend, jump, run, and lift approximately 5–25 pounds.
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous security experience preferred.
- Two days 9:30AM – 5:30PM.
- Two days 9:30AM – 9:30PM.
- 4PM – 12AM at The Met Fifth Avenue.
- Weekend availability required.
$19.14–$23.31/hour, in accordance with union rates set by DC37 and the City of New York, Office of Labor Relations.

LocationEmployees must be located within commuting distance of the museum, defined as residing in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania and able to commute in a single day.
