Description
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm that helps clients navigate national security and international trade risks. The National Security Specialist will lead projects that assess and enhance clients’ compliance with U.S. and allied trade control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and comparable non‑U.S. regimes.
The TeamA&M’s Disputes and Investigations practice brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds to conduct investigations, deliver expert witness reports, and provide compliance services. The national security focus of this team supports government agencies and private sector clients through risk assessment, policy development, and technical controls.
Responsibilities- Lead project teams and independently execute projects on U.S. international trade and technology security controls, Defense Industrial Base (DIB) cybersecurity, and related compliance enhancements.
- Conduct trade and technology controls assessments, including compliance reviews of ITAR, EAR, and equivalent non‑U.S. regulations.
- Audit, assess, and strengthen clients’ international trade, technology security, and foreign investment controls.
- Develop engagement approaches and project plans in collaboration with leadership.
- Interface directly with clients, delivering high‑quality work products such as compliance programs, policies, procedures, assessments, and reports.
- Build subject‑matter expertise in national security, international trade, and foreign investment review areas, staying current on regulatory developments.
- Design and execute adaptive compliance risk mitigation and information security solutions across multiple domains.
- Assist clients in navigating U.S. and allied government security, trade, and technology control requirements.
- Lead the creation of collateral, thought leadership, and marketing materials.
- Contribute to internal company projects and initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred, especially with focus on international trade or investment controls.
- Prior experience as a compliance or national security professional, including program leadership in a company, professional services firm, or U.S. government.
- Demonstrated expertise in international trade compliance.
- Excellent research and writing skills, with ability to produce polished, complete work products independently.
- Proficiency with office productivity and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint).
