DescriptionSHIFT SUPERVISOR OF AVIATION SECURITY, BX17 – Chicago Department of Aviation – Security Division.
Number of Positions: 3 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)
Starting Salary: $83,052.00

Characteristics of the ClassUnder direction, functions as the security officer in charge of an airport security or surveillance unit during an assigned tour of duty and performs related duties as required.
Essential Duties- Coordinates and schedules deployment of Aviation Surveillance Specialists to ensure maximum coverage of the Security Operations Center.
- Assigns aviation security personnel to cover emergency situations and special events.
- Makes daily work assignments and ensures proper staff coverage.
- Updates and briefs staff at the start of shift on previous shift’s reported incidents, upcoming airport activities, and other relevant security activities.
- Issues general security instructions to airlines and airport tenants and works with the Chicago Police Department in coordinating special security matters.
- Aids in response to disturbances on airport grounds and manages crowd and traffic control in terminal areas as required.
- Oversees the preparation of and completes staff performance appraisals.
- Tracks and approves video requests for airport partners.
- Monitors and tracks Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
- Works with CDA Legal, Management Labor Affairs, and Inspector General on various investigations.
- Monitors and tracks law enforcement investigative video requests.
- Monitors social media feeds for potential disruptions to airport operations.
- Oversees Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checks.
- Makes recommendations for discipline and implements corrective or disciplinary actions.
- Monitors and tracks drone flights and drone detection equipment.
- Attends departmental meetings and serves as liaison with law enforcement agencies.
- Reviews and approves submitted incident reports and prepares comprehensive reports on security operations.
- Updates and maintains statistical and narrative reports documenting administrative activities.
- Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and uses automated external defibrillator (AED) equipment as required.
- Testifies at judicial proceedings and administrative hearings.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Seven (7) years of professional law‑enforcement officer experience and 60 semester (or 90 quarter) hours of credit from an accredited college or university, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR
- Seven (7) years of experience in security work and 60 semester (or 90 quarter) hours of credit from an accredited college or university, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus three (3) years of professional law‑enforcement officer experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position; OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or higher, plus three (3) years of security work experience, of which three (3) years are in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position.
NOTE:
The candidate selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA).

This position is subject to working off‑hour shifts as required 24/7/365.

This position requires a VALID LICENSE at the time of hire.
