Job Description

The Security Officer/Driver patrols and maintains surveillance of the Hospital, both internally and externally, to ensure the physical safety of our employees and the patients we serve. The Security Officer/Driver additionally services patients, visitors, and staff through verbal interaction and vehicular transportation. The percentage of time spent in each capacity varies according to days and shifts worked, as well as shuttle and transportation needs.

• Patrol internal and external building, including hallways, secure and open doors, and parking areas.

• Operate shuttle service to and from the University of Chicago (hourly shuttles between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm weekdays only, excluding holidays). Also provide US Postal pick‑up (weekdays only, excluding holidays).
• Provide special transportation services: patient transports to off‑site healthcare facilities, donation pick‑up, vehicle maintenance, and various trips as requested.

• Greets and directs visitors.
• Issues visitor passes.
• Serves as communication command station for Security and Transportation Drivers.
• Triage Emergency Room patients.
• Monitors life safety systems.
• Answers incoming calls.
• Handles internal paging.
• Maintains presence as primary attendant at console during lunch and breaks.

• View camera monitor and change tape.
• Inspect door printouts.

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Customer service background; prefer at least two years’ experience as a Security Officer in a healthcare environment.
• 20‑hour basic Security Training Program certification (waived for current/previous Security or Law Enforcement officers).
• Valid state driver’s license with no major driving violations in the past year.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license while employed.
• Knowledge of basic security operations.

USD $18 – $18 per hour.
