Public Safety Officer (Part Time – Per Diem)

Location:

Swedish Hospital – Chicago, IL.

Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32.

Responsibilities
  • Provide unarmed, uniformed security/safety services under general supervision and established policies and procedures.
  • Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in a motorized vehicle according to the established schedule and investigate unusual occurrences.
  • Report incidents or potential loss of Hospital, employee, patient, or visitor property (fire, theft, vandalism) and involve police when necessary; assist during police investigations.
  • Respond to all service calls in a timely, safe, professional, and courteous manner; welcome patients and visitors; provide accurate directions; escort individuals as needed; manage vehicle traffic around the hospital; clear loading docks; issue parking citations and maintain records.
  • Physically restrain unruly patients/visitors or those posing a threat; involve police if required; provide court testimony if necessary.
  • Administer control systems to protect patient and employee valuables and hospital equipment; monitor handling of lost and found items; ensure doors and windows are locked; inspect equipment, alarms, and fire extinguishers; notify personnel of problems; investigate and document thefts, accidents, and incidents; prepare accurate documentation.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum one year experience in a customer‑focused, service‑based organization.
  • Preferred: at least two years of experience in law enforcement, military, or private security.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention, and fire/security technology.
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card within 90 days of start date.
  • Current CPR certification issued by the American Heart Association or Red Cross within 90 days of start date.
  • Valid driver’s license; if using a personal vehicle, maintain required automobile liability coverage.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification within six months of hire.
  • Preferred:
    International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Healthcare Security Officer training certification within twelve months of start date.
