Building and/or Building Plumbing Inspector
The Village of Carpentersville is seeking an experienced professional to fill the full-time position of Building and/or Building Plumbing Inspector in the Community Development Department. The Inspector will work under the supervision of the Building Official. This position will remain open until filled, and applications will be reviewed as they are received.
SummaryThe Inspector is responsible for a variety of routine, complex, and technical tasks related to commercial and residential building and plumbing inspections, as well as plan reviews during various stages of construction and remodeling. The goal is to ensure compliance with the standards, rules, and regulations of the Illinois Plumbing Code and Village Municipal Codes. Additionally, the Inspector will examine plans and specifications for new construction, additions, and alterations of residential and commercial buildings to determine compliance with applicable local, state, and federal construction codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.

QualificationsThe position requires a high school diploma or GED and a sufficient number of years field experience in residential and commercial settings as an Illinois licensed plumber in order to obtain IDPH Plumbing Inspector certification within 12 months of hire. Experience as a municipal plumbing inspector is preferred.
Special RequirementsA valid State of Illinois Driver’s License and IDPH Plumbing License is required upon hire. The ability to obtain an ICC residential inspector or residential plans examiner certification within 24 months of hire is strongly preferred.
The successful candidate must demonstrate appropriate and effective communication skills and have the ability to exercise critical thinking, problem solving, sound judgement, initiative, professionalism, and safety. The candidate must also be able to occasionally carry, lift, push, pull, or drag objects up to 50 pounds.
