Field/Service Technician, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
As a Controls Technician, you will play a key role in supporting Carrier’s service operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and commissioning DDC control systems integrated with HVAC equipment. This entry‑level position focuses on hands‑on work with control systems, software, and field devices, allowing you to build technical expertise through everyday troubleshooting and service tasks that increase in complexity as your skills grow.
Responsibilities- Maintain and repair DDC control systems applied to HVAC systems.
- Install, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot control components, ensuring proper communication between controllers.
- Maintain electronic components in the field and Carrier software and graphics.
- Upload software updates to frontend PCs as required.
- Provide basic customer training on operating and navigating the Carrier Building Automation System.
- Work independently on routine service situations with limited supervision.
- Interact with a large and diverse number of simultaneous challenges that span multiple disciplines.
- Adhere to all CCS and customer safety standards, promote safety awareness on work sites, and communicate with customers upon arrival and before departure.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, keep customers informed of service actions, and communicate outstanding issues while recommending system enhancements, upgrades, or repairs.
- Collaborate with the service account manager to engineer and estimate solutions.
- Perform system maintenance in accordance with service practices, including field controllers, servers, workstations, and field hardware.
- Maintain feedback on equipment scheduling and necessary modifications for the service account manager.
- Commission and start‑up control systems, testing project programs to meet specified sequences of operation per customer and industry standards.
- High School Diploma or GED, Associate degree, or Technical School qualification in HVAC.
- 4+ years’ experience in the HVAC controls industry.
- Valid, current Driver’s License and will be insurable by Carrier’s insurance carrier.
- Ability to travel within the local area, including overnight hotel stays, unexpected travel, and participation in a rotating on‑call schedule.
- Physically able to stand, crawl, sit, squat, climb ladders, and lift equipment up to 8ft above grade.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs.
- Basic understanding of building automation controls.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using Salesforce and Service Max is a plus.

- Paid travel time after the first hour and an on‑call schedule to support work‑life balance, with rotations every 7‑8 weeks in most locations.
- Company‑provided vehicle with gas cards.
- All necessary tools provided.
- Comprehensive safety and PPE, including steel‑toed boots, Carrier‑branded uniforms with FR protection, HVAC gloves, hard hats, face shields, standard safety goggles, optional prescription eyewear, fall protection, respirators, and earplugs as needed.

The hourly rate for this position is between $38.00 and $76.00 per hour. Pay is influenced by skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
