Lead Mobile Technician

Position Functions
  • Make certain all technicians under their lead are working safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Diagnose and repair transmission, engine, electrical, suspension, driveline, HVAC, brakes, and air systems on tractors and trailers.
  • Travel to various remote sites to accomplish field repairs on equipment that is broken down, where relocating them to the main shop would be counterproductive.
  • Perform all repairs in various weather conditions and site environments safely and efficiently.
  • Perform light trailer body repairs including doors, tires, lighting system, etc.
  • Maintain services for the company’s fleet of vehicles.
  • Maintain shop equipment and service truck as per company guidelines.
  • Evaluate safety concerns and make necessary adjustments to ensure safety during travel, and any duties performed while onsite at the various locations is always to the highest standard.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair of assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Efficiently account for paid time on work orders and document various steps taken throughout the repair process to ensure maximum warranty recovery and historical data for potential future information.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or better than SRT times.
  • Ability to source needed parts when necessary and communicate with Parts Supervisor of domiciled terminal for proper payment to vendor.
  • Maintain parts inventory integrity, warranty, core parts and parts usage tracking from cradle to grave.
  • Carry, monitor, and answer company-issued cellphones, text, emails, and any other form of expected communications with accounts and management staff.
  • Focused on excellent customer service, and resolution oriented.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience
  • 7+ years of experience working on trailers required.
  • 7+ years of experience working on tractors required.
  • Technical diploma from an accredited Diesel Technology Program may substitute for 1 year of required experience.
Skills & Abilities
  • Team building skills.
  • Must be consistently capable of independently analyzing and safely resolving mechanical problems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Personable skills (attention to details, dependability, integrity, independence, analytical thinking, initiative).
  • Advanced welding skills required.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to read and write required.
  • Must provide own hand tools adequate to perform job functions.
Licenses & Certifications
  • DOT and Brake Certifications required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Meritor/Bendix and tandem assembly certification preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility

Act as a mentor and point of contact for the customer and lower-level technicians; report out to Shop Manager at a satellite Terminal.

Work Environment

Will work in infrequent temperature and humidity extremes up to 100% of workday (this includes working outside/inside). Candidates for this role should be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, extensively work with their hands, and communicate verbally with their teammates.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time supporting full body weight.
  • Ability to walk 1000 feet minimum and change positions frequently.
  • Ability to frequently move shoulders with full range of motion in all six planes of movement.
  • Ability to reach heights over 72” frequently; ability to crouch to height of 18” frequently.
  • Ability to reach and stretch across the midline with full cervical range of motion and bilateral range of motion.
  • Ability to use hand tools constantly for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to stoop to 30” minimum and kneel to 18” minimum.
  • Ability to frequently climb 5.1” with one 2.4” step and pull full body weight.
  • Ability to frequently climb stairs 2.4” without a hand hold rail.
  • Ability to pull self up ladder with 4x1.7” steps with upper body pull.
  • Ability to constantly go in/out of truck on 5.1” and one 2.4” step pulling full body weight.
  • Ability to frequently go up and down ramp.
  • Ability to occasionally push 250 lbs, pull 125 lbs, frequently push/pull 100/50 lbs and constantly push/pull 50/25 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally carry, lift overhead, high, low and medium lift 51/75 lbs, frequently 50/21 lbs and constantly 20/1 lbs.
