Operating Engineer – JLL
The Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems to ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant facility operations. This role supports JLL’s commitment to delivering high-quality property management services by maintaining critical infrastructure, responding to operational issues, and supporting a safe environment for clients, occupants, and team members. The position requires strong technical expertise in at least one core trade and the ability to work across multiple building systems during overnight weekend shifts.
Whatyour day-to-day will look like:
- Operate and monitor facility systems in compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural, and fire/life safety systems.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues, record system readings, and make operational adjustments as needed.
- Identify, assess, and help mitigate safety hazards; participate in incident investigations when required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Coordinate with and monitor outside contractors for quality and pricing of work performed.
- Respond to service requests, customer inquiries, and emergency situations in a professional and timely manner.
- High school diploma or state equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of college, technical, or trade school education.
- Minimum of four years of experience in the electrical trade or four years of experience in HVAC/refrigeration or a related field.
- Stationary Engineer’s License.
- Universal EPA Certification.
- Membership in IBEW Local 399 Union.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 80 lbs and working at heights.
- Demonstrated multi-skilled experience across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of building automation and computer-controlled equipment.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong understanding of energy-efficient building operations and cost control.
- Experience supporting emergency response activities in commercial or campus-style facilities.
