Position: Experienced Damage Prevention Technician - Utility Locator Georgia Location

The Experienced Damage Prevention Technician / Utility Locator is responsible for accurately locating and marking underground utility facilities in accordance with state 811 laws, APWA color codes, company standards, and client requirements. This role plays a critical part in public safety, damage prevention, and infrastructure protection. (

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to 811 locate requests within required timelines.
  • Accurately locate and mark underground utilities including:
    • Electric.
    • Gas.
    • Communications/Fiber.
    • Water.
    • Sewer.
    • CATV systems.
  • Interpret utility maps, prints, and GIS systems.
  • Operate locating equipment including:
    • Electromagnetic locators.
    • Ground penetrating radar (GPR).
    • GPS/GIS devices.
    • Signal transmitters and receivers.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and digital ticket updates.
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, homeowners, municipalities, and utility owners.
  • Follow OSHA, company safety, and traffic control procedures.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and
  • Perform field verification and quality assurance on completed marks.
  • Maintain company vehicle, equipment, and inventory.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2–5 years utility locating experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of APWA utility marking standards.
  • Strong understanding of damage prevention practices.
  • Ability to read construction plans and utility maps.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
  • CPR/First Aid.
  • NULCA certification.
  • State damage prevention certifications.
Physical Requirements
  • Walking long distances.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and standing.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat conditions common in many regions.
