Diesel Mechanic
This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing, and repairing medium-duty trucks with an emphasis on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components. You will ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently by identifying issues early, completing high-quality repairs, and supporting reliable fleet performance in a demanding operational environment.
Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including identifying drivability issues and resolving check engine light concerns.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain air brake systems to ensure safe and compliant operation.
- Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic schematics to troubleshoot and repair systems accurately.
- Work on hydraulic systems, including understanding how they function and performing repairs and adjustments as needed.
- Diagnose and repair electrical issues on trucks, including wiring diagnostics and component testing.
- Address check engine lights and other diagnostic alerts using appropriate tools and methods to identify root causes.
- Document maintenance and repair work clearly and accurately to support maintenance records and compliance requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, support operational needs, and maintain a safe and efficient shop environment.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience working with diesel engines.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with hydraulic systems.
- Proficiency in performing preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines and related components.
- Experience repairing and maintaining air brake systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including wiring diagnostics and resolving electrical faults.
- Experience diagnosing drivability issues and resolving check engine light concerns.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport SIDA badge, including meeting all security and background requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety in all maintenance and repair activities.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on medium-duty trucks in a fleet or similar environment.
- Familiarity with ground support or similar heavy equipment is beneficial.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively to a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Good communication skills to report issues, share findings, and coordinate work with colleagues and leadership.
- Willingness to work a set schedule that includes evenings and weekends as required by operational needs.
