Laborer (Maintenance)
Under immediate supervision, performs common labor work necessary in general maintenance work. Operates any mechanical or power-driven apparatus or equipment essential to the performance of the duties of this position. Performs related duties as required.
Examples of duties:
- Operates a hand lawn mower.
- Picks up paper.
- Spades, seeds, waters and rakes lawn areas.
- Sweeps walks and roadway gutters.
- Digs, waters, rolls and marks with lines softball and baseball diamonds, running tracks, tennis courts and football fields.
- Cleans catch basins.
- Removes snow and ice.
- Spreads sanding materials and makes and maintains ice for skating.
- Operates special equipment.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Performs labor work in connection with removing, planting or trimming trees.
- Digs trenches.
- Assists in sowing flower beds and performs necessary maintenance works in greenhouses.
Minimum qualifications:
Training and experience:
- Experience in performing manual labor work.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
License requirement:
Valid State of Illinois Driver's License
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to perform manual labor.
- Ability to respond to routine inquiries from the public.
