Description

This position will be part of the OJJDP Mansueto Safer Together Program, located at Mansueto High School, a Noble Network charter school in the Brighton Park community. The program supports eligible youth by providing age-appropriate life skills development and coaching.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide mentorship and advocacy services to 8th–10th grade youth, maintaining a consistent caseload of 18 students.
  • Support youth in achieving positive school outcomes and reduced justice-involvement.
  • Work individually with youth to develop Individualized Service Plans (ISP) that address academics, social-emotional learning, counseling referrals, life skills, and other areas of improvement.
  • Ensure youth files are complete, up to date, and compliant with program and funder requirements.
  • Complete all employability-related requirements, including employability skills checklists, pre/post assessments, and related documentation.
  • Assist youth in identifying factors that place them at risk of engaging in or experiencing aggressive behavior, anxiety, or unsafe situations, and help them develop strategies to avoid these risks and work toward their goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local community organizations and resources within targeted neighborhoods.
  • Re-engage youth with inconsistent attendance; communicate with families, provide resource connections, and conduct home visits as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and provide updates on youth progress.
  • Transport students to and from program-related activities when required.
  • Develop relationships within the school community and across the broader Chicago area to secure worksite placements, enrichment opportunities, and field trips for youth.
  • Complete all required reporting and data submissions for SGA, such as the Employability/Life Assessment, SPIN intake data, pre/post assessments, closing summaries, and other documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by SGA or program funders.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate’s Degree in social work, criminal justice, related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred.
  • Experience: Experience working with teens and young adults, preferred.
  • Experience working in neighborhoods on southwest sides.
  • Experience working with individuals dealing with factors that put them at-risk of becoming victims of aggressive behavior.
  • Experience working one on one with youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
  • Evening and weekend availability required.
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
  • Must be able to work independently.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to frequently move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
  • At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and events needs.
  • Frequently moves in outdoor weather conditions.
