Overview

SGA’s Early Head Start Home‑based program serves pregnant moms and children 0‑3 years within the City of Chicago through weekly home visits that engage both the caregiver and the child. Families also participate in bi‑monthly group socializations, parent trainings, governance, and field trips. All children and families receive wrap‑around services to ensure healthy development and success.

Position Summary

The Home‑Based Home Visitor/Administrative Support (HBHVAS) performs a variety of administrative tasks while maintaining a reduced caseload and providing coverage during home visitor vacancies. The role supports the Early Advantage home visiting program, assists with preparation and planning of visits, and ensures the effective implementation of family engagement services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend to administrative duties as assigned by the Home‑Based Supervisor.
  • Complete PAT training and implement the PAT curriculum within assigned caseload.
  • Carry a reduced caseload of program participants.
  • Conduct a minimum of bi‑monthly home visits for each assigned child/family; prepare and plan visits with families and monthly socializations when assigned.
  • Complete home‑visit observation, screenings, assessments, and documentation to meet Head Start Performance Standards in the Early Head‑Start Home‑Based option.
  • Enter data into the system for visits, socializations, attendance, and other required documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings with home visitors to receive feedback on data, lesson planning, and socialization planning.
  • Draft program documents and manage small program projects to deliver positive experiences to staff, children, and families.
  • Monitor program materials and supplies, place inventory and food orders, and maintain the filing system for invoices and supporting evidence.
  • Attend reflective supervision with the Home‑Based Supervisor, program meetings, funder meetings, and other assigned meetings.
  • Maintain accurate calendar, reconcile expenses in Concur, submit ADP timecards and PTO, and adhere to organizational priorities.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as requested.
Required Education
  • BA in Social Work or Early Childhood Education.
  • Gateways Credential level 5.
  • At least 2 years of experience in early childhood/family support or home visiting programs.
Required Experience
  • Knowledge and ability to implement early childhood curriculum and developmentally appropriate practice for ages 0‑3, and to stay abreast of child‑development field developments.
  • Demonstrated leadership in reflective supervision.
  • Knowledge of and ability to assess, analyze, and interpret Head Start Standards and Start Early’s philosophy.
  • Cooperative and supportive team member.
  • Effective communication and cooperation with diverse families, professionals, and community groups.
  • Willingness to work in a high‑risk, low‑income community.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information and materials.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including word processing in a Windows environment; ability to learn other technologies.
  • Consistent respectful and considerate communication.
Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to work varying hours Monday – Friday; schedule may include evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance required for work‑related travel.
Key Competencies
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office tools and in online database input.
  • Flexible schedule may include evenings and weekends.
  • Access to a vehicle, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain stationary 50 % of the time.
  • Must frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Must transport self to and from home visits.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend stairs.
  • Constantly move to assist during program activities.
  • May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various needs.
  • Frequently move in outdoor weather conditions.
