This is a full-time, on-site Drug and Alcohol Counselor role based in Chicago, IL. The counselor will provide individual and group counseling to youth experiencing substance use concerns, often in the context of trauma and child maltreatment. Daily responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing and updating individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based interventions focused on substance use recovery and mental health stabilization.
The role involves monitoring progress, implementing relapse prevention strategies, coordinating services with case managers, clinicians, schools, and families, and maintaining accurate, timely documentation in compliance with agency and regulatory standards. The counselor will also participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contribute to crisis intervention when needed, and support community outreach and education related to substance use and mental health.
- Strong skills in Treatment Planning, including assessment, goal setting, and ongoing evaluation of client progress.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chemical Dependency and substance use disorders, including evidence-based counseling approaches.
- Experience implementing Relapse Prevention strategies and supporting clients in maintaining long-term recovery.
- Competence in Case Management, including service coordination, referrals, and collaboration with community partners and families.
- Foundational understanding of Psychology, particularly trauma-informed care and child/adolescent development.
- Relevant licensure or certification (e.g., CADC or equivalent) or eligibility to obtain, as required by state regulations.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field preferred.
- Experience working with youth impacted by trauma, child welfare involvement, or high-risk environments is highly beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal, de-escalation, and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse clients.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries, uphold confidentiality, and complete documentation accurately and on time.
