Overview

To assist the Manager and Director of Children and Family Services in program operations, the Assistant Manager oversees children’s counseling, parenting classes, child/teen groups, and performs the duties of a Children’s Advocate. The role includes supervising interns and Children’s Advocates in Chicago locations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the Children’s and Family Services Program at Chicago locations, hire and supervise required staff.
  • Carry a caseload that includes service/safety plans, assessments, counseling, support groups, case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, safety, and conflict resolution. Facilitate parenting classes.
  • Administer measures/assessments to parents and children to assess effectiveness of treatment and provide guidance for goal setting.
  • Provide clinical intervention and support, including being on-call for critical issues.
  • Ensure staff, interns, and volunteers are supported with resources to perform their jobs.
  • Facilitate regular department meetings.
  • Collaborate with other staff to advance wrap‑around services and foster a strong team culture.
  • Partner with local schools and community organizations to educate about healthy relationships.
  • Attend meetings and act as a liaison in the community as assigned.
  • Teach and/or supervise the WINGS 40‑hour domestic violence training and other CEU‑required classes.
  • Immediately report child abuse to the Department of Children and Family Services per law and agency procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records, including up‑to‑date client files and case notes, and submit reports and program evaluations within established timelines.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in social work and LCSW required.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience and experience working with children, domestic violence, mental health/substance use (preferred) including strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills (required).
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • 40‑hour domestic violence training, ICDVP and CPR & First Aid certification preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and excellent verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently; highly organized with attention to detail, strong project management, interpersonal, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Skilled in handling sensitive issues and maintaining professional boundaries with clients.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, professionalism, flexibility, and commitment to teamwork.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel throughout the organization’s service area.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs using both hands/arms regularly and climb stairs.
