Counselor Aide

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is seeking a Counselor Aide for the Harbor Light/IRU program. This position reports to the Intensive Programs Manager and is classified as non-exempt. The pay range is $17.05 - $20.40.

The mission of the department is to provide each client with positive, professional, and quality service, promoting respect, dignity, and fairness, while making appropriate referrals to assist clients in reaching their maximum level of independence.

The program/client environment involves working with clients who may exhibit inappropriate behaviors. Employees must respond within the treatment environment of the site, maintaining appropriate conduct and interactions with clients.

The essential duties and responsibilities include supervising the unit during nights, weekends, and holidays, monitoring residents for emergencies, enforcing schedule rules, maintaining logs, scheduling activities, attending staff meetings, and performing other duties as assigned.

This position reports to the Unit Coordinator and acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission. The individual will be evaluated on the effectiveness and efficiency of achieving outcomes, timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of assigned goals.

Education/experience:
One year of experience preferred.

Competencies:

Ability to read and write, good communication and interpersonal skills, teamwork, initiative, positive attitude, one year of sobriety required, commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission.

Position limitations include committing only approved Army resources, keeping the Intensive Programs Manager informed on critical issues, and adhering to all policies and procedures.

Physical demands/work environment:
Light physical work, use of standard office equipment, office environment, working with clients with poor social skills, mental illness, and substance abuse problems.
