Manager of Social Work & Counseling (CHES)

Reports to: Principal

Status: Exempt

Position Objective: Manage social work team to ensure promotion of the emotional, social, and physical growth of each child, youth and family in the Early Childhood and Youth Development program. Provide support and consultation to program staff to meet the social emotional needs of children and their caregivers.

Supervises: Social Workers and Middle School Counselor

Relationships with: Principal, Assistant Principal/Case Manager, and other members of the Leadership Team; EC and FSS management staff;
Site Directors and teachers; students and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, train and supervise Social Worker(s), school counselor and other professionals as directed by principal.
  • Ensure compliance with all program and funder requirements including data collection, data entry systems and files.
  • Ensure that Lead Social Worker meets frequently with social workers/counselor.
  • Work with Social Workers and building administration to identify students that are in need of collaborative staffing to support child/family needs.
  • Supervise and provide oversight to Social Work caseloads including outcome evaluation data and casework summaries. Report results to Principal.
Program
  • Provide supportive (“reflective”) and administrative supervision to ensure that staff provide services in compliance with funder requirements and in a manner that is respectful and supportive of participants and their families.
  • Supervise Social Workers and Middle School Counselor to ensure program success.
  • Make appropriate referrals as student needs require. Maintain program participant confidentiality.
Administration
  • Ensure that student information is entered accurately and timely into funder and agency database management systems.
  • Ensure that staff meetings, clinical staffing, supervisions, and training are conducted in alignment with agency and funder guidelines.
Inter-Agency/Community Relations
  • Support and consult with staff on cases of suspected child abuse and neglect in alignment with Christopher House’s policies and legal requirements as outlined by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
  • Provide annual training for agency mandated reporters, on child abuse and neglect mandated reporting
  • Develop partnerships with external partners to make referrals and collaborate to meet student needs.
Financial
  • As a member of staff who is authorized to make purchases for the agency must assure that all components of the Purchasing Procedures are being followed.
Human Resources
  • Select and hire qualified team members
  • Complete orientation/onboarding with new staff members as needed and outlined in Christopher House onboarding checklist
  • Conduct ongoing performance management with each direct report, including development of individual professional development plan with each direct report
  • Actively participate in achievement and monitor progress towards agreed upon performance goals and review performance compared to goals.
  • Create a work culture for direct reports that fosters diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
Team Orientation
  • Maintain and encourage a positive working relationship among team members that models Christopher House’s commitment to collaboration.
  • Facilitate and participate in regular supervision with each direct report and team meetings
Quality Assurance
  • Actively seek to align programs with best practices or standards for high quality.
  • Analyze data with team members to determine how to explain information related to findings and improvement strategies.
  • Report findings to supervisor; make recommendations for improving quality of services and/or department’s outcomes system; ensure successful implementation of department strategies.
  • Use outcome findings to enhance organization’s public image and promote programs to families, volunteers, funders, and stakeholders.
