The Residence Coordinator for The Flats is responsible for supporting the daily operations, student experience, community standards, and residential environment of The Flats, Chicago State University's off-campus residential community. The position serves as a primary Housing and Residence Life presence at The Flats and works collaboratively with Housing and Residence Life leadership, University departments, students, and property management to support a safe, secure, welcoming, and well-maintained residential community.
The Residence Coordinator will provide direct support to residents, monitor the residential environment, coordinate responses to student and facility concerns, assist with housing operations, and support the implementation of Housing and Residence Life policies, procedures, and initiatives. This position is live-on.
Job DescriptionA Residence Coordinator typical key responsibilities:
- Residential Community Oversight:
Serve as a primary Housing and Residence Life representative at The Flats. Maintain a consistent and visible presence within the residential community. Conduct routine walkthroughs of common areas and residential spaces to identify concerns related to safety, cleanliness, maintenance, and community standards. Monitor the overall condition and functionality of the residential community and communicate concerns to Housing and Residence Life leadership.
Assist in maintaining a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and student-centered residential environment. Develop and maintain positive relationships with residents and serve as a resource for students living at The Flats. - Student Support and Engagement:
Serve as a primary point of contact for residents regarding housing, residential life, and community concerns. Respond to student questions, concerns, and requests in a professional and timely manner. Assist students with navigating Housing and Residence Life processes, policies, and procedures. Conduct regular student check-ins and identify concerns that may require additional support or intervention. Connect students with appropriate University resources, including Counseling, Student Affairs, Academic Support, Student Engagement, and other campus services.
Assist with the development and implementation of programs, activities, and initiatives designed to promote student engagement, belonging, retention, and success. Promote a positive residential community focused on respect, accountability, and student success. - Community Standards and Student Conduct:
Assist with the implementation and communication of Housing and Residence Life policies and community standards. Respond appropriately to student behavioral and community concerns. Address minor concerns through education, redirection, and appropriate intervention. Document and report incidents in accordance with University and Housing and Residence Life procedures. Assist with follow-up regarding student conduct concerns and community issues. Coordinate with appropriate University departments regarding student concerns that require additional intervention or support.
Support preventative initiatives designed to promote positive residential behavior and reduce disruptive incidents within the residential community. - Housing Operations:
Assist with the coordination of daily housing operations at The Flats. Assist with move-in, move-out, room changes, temporary assignments, and other residential processes. Support the coordination of student housing assignments and occupancy needs. Maintain accurate records related to student assignments, occupancy, room changes, and residential concerns. Assist Housing and Residence Life leadership with identifying available spaces and addressing assignment-related concerns.
