AI-powered and agentic developer tools are changing what is possible, creating an opportunity to rethink how engineers write, test, review, ship, and operate software. At Reddit’s scale, that means building tools that are not only more intelligent, but also faster, more reliable, easier to use, and grounded in strong engineering fundamentals.
This role sits at the center of that work: designing and building the platforms, services, systems, and workflows that improve how Reddit engineers develop software. You’ll work across backend systems, infrastructure, developer tooling, and AI-powered workflows to solve problems that affect hundreds of engineers across the company. You’ll collaborate closely with teams that own CI/CD, infrastructure, security, and product systems, as well as engineering teams across Reddit that rely on these tools every day.
We’re looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals, infrastructure experience, product judgment, and a real interest in developer experience and developer productivity.
Some of our present and future challenges include:
- Designing and building the next generation of developer tooling, including agentic and AI-powered workflows.
- Improving developer velocity, confidence, and service reliability across Reddit Engineering.
- Building tools and workflows that make writing, testing, reviewing, and shipping code easier.
- Scaling our infrastructure, services, APIs, and processes to serve a growing engineering organization.
- Understanding internal users’ needs and turning that understanding into meaningful product and technical improvements.
- Building integrations across Reddit’s existing infrastructure, CI/CD, security, source control, deployment, and operational systems.
- Investigating, building, and integrating novel technologies where they solve real problems for developers.
You’ll draw on your backend, infrastructure, and platform engineering experience to build developer tooling that is scalable, reliable, easy to use, and valuable to a growing engineering organization. You’ll work directly with engineers across Reddit to understand their pain points, shape solutions, incorporate feedback, and communicate the impact of the team’s work.
What You’ll Do- Work cross-functionally across Reddit Engineering to understand developer needs, quickly prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
- Design and build backend systems, APIs, infrastructure, and platform capabilities that improve developer workflows across Reddit.
- Build scalable and reliable systems across both AI-powered developer workflows and the core non-AI systems engineers rely on every day.
- Lead high-impact projects across Reddit’s developer tooling ecosystem by writing and reviewing code and design docs, aligning stakeholders, and making pragmatic technical tradeoffs.
- Build tools and integrations that connect developer workflows with Reddit’s existing infrastructure, CI/CD, security, source control, deployment, and operational systems.
- Design and implement maintainable APIs, services, libraries, and platforms that support internal developer tooling at scale.
- Improve the team’s tools, processes, and best practices while raising the bar for reliability, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Mentor engineers and help shape a roadmap that reflects real developer needs and delivers meaningful improvements to Reddit’s engineering organization.
- 5+ years of hands‑on, post‑grad, non‑internship professional software development experience, with backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering as a core strength.
- 3+ years of industry experience working on large‑scale distributed systems, including building and improving highly scalable and reliable services.
