About the Role
World Book Inc., a subsidiary of Marmon Holdings, is seeking a motivated and curious Software Developer Intern to join our technology team. This is a hands‑on opportunity to contribute to real‑world EdTech projects, learn from experienced engineers, and be involved in the full software development lifecycle—from concept to deployment. The position can be based in the Chicago area and work a hybrid schedule (2‑3 days per week in the office) or work remotely with occasional visits to the Chicago office.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of web applications.
- Collaborate with developers, UX/UI designers, and product managers to implement features and enhancements.
- Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code following team standards.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement practices.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance.
- Research emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions for educational products.
- Hands‑on experience in a professional software development environment.
- Mentorship from experienced engineers and exposure to modern tech stacks.
- Opportunity to work on features that directly impact students and teachers.
- Insights into the EdTech industry and product development process.
- A completed project you can showcase in your portfolio.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of at least one programming language (Java, JavaScript, Python, C#, etc.).
- Basic understanding of web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred (but not required):
- Experience with front‑end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) or back‑end frameworks (Spring Boot, Node.js, Django).
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git/Git Hub).
- Familiarity with AI coding tools such as Claude.
- Interest in educational technology and improving the learning experience.
Pay Range: $18.00 – $27.00 per hour. For a rising senior (graduating in 2027), the anticipated pay rate is $27.00 per hour.
