We are seeking Full Stack Software Engineers passionate about marrying data with emerging technologies. As a Senior Lead Software Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to drive a major transformation within Capital One, joining a team dedicated to building high‑performance, cloud‑native platforms from the ground up to enable secure spending for millions of cardholders.

Our engineers leverage a modern, high‑resiliency stack including Java, Go, and AWS native services like Lambda and Fargate to solve complex challenges in financial issuance, real‑time security, and global payment servicing.

This role offers the rare opportunity to drive technical modernization of critical infrastructure while ensuring low‑latency performance at a massive scale. You will have the flexibility to work across various features, providing a deep dive into sophisticated financial domains while making a direct impact on core operations.

Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices and full‑stack systems to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company. Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal and external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and from time to time, be asked to code or evaluate code.

Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud‑based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment.

Utilize programming languages and tools including JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, Type Script, SQL, Python, Go, open‑source RDBMS and No

SQL databases, container orchestration services such as Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services.

• Bachelor’s degree
• At least 6 years of experience in software engineering (internship experience does not apply)
• At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

• Master’s degree
• 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following:
  JavaScript, Java, Type Script, SQL, Python, or Go
• 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service
• 4+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks
• 1+ year of people management experience
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion

Minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part‑time roles will be prorated based on the agreed number of hours.

Chicago, IL: $209,000 - $238,500 for Sr. Lead Software Engineer. Candidates hired in other locations will receive the pay range associated with that location.

This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives (LTI).
