Backend Developer, Full Stack Developer
What you’ll do (Responsibilities)
- Partner with investment and research stakeholders to clarify requirements, define scope, and translate needs into technical designs and deliverables.
- Design, build, and maintain interactive web applications (React) used by investment professionals.
- Build RESTful APIs and microservices (Python/Flask/FastAPI) to support data access, business logic, and workflow orchestration.
- Implement event‑driven patterns using Kafka (producers/consumers, topic design, partitions/consumer groups, error handling/retries, and delivery semantics where applicable).
- Contribute to data platform work: modeling, pipelines, validation, transformation, and integration with analytics/reporting use cases (e.g., Snowflake + SQL).
- Own end‑to‑end delivery: design, development, code review, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Improve engineering quality and operability through standards for testing, documentation, CI/CD, monitoring, and alerting.
- Mentor engineers and lead by example in design reviews, pull requests, and production readiness practices.
- Collaborate with platform/release teams on deployments and operational processes (e.g., containerization and Open Shift).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering enterprise‑grade applications.
- Strong full‑stack experience across:
- Front end: 2+ years building UIs with React (and modern Type Script/JavaScript practices).
- Back end: 4+ years building services in Python (FastAPI/Flask strongly preferred; Pandas/Num Py required).
- Strong relational data skills:
- 3+ years hands‑on SQL.
- Data modeling and database design; ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
- Experience with Snowflake.
- Messaging/eventing experience:
- 1+ years using Kafka (or similar) in production systems.
- Strong OOPS fundamentals.
- Experience containerizing applications with Docker and deploying to Open Shift (or comparable Kubernetes platforms).
- Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., Git Hub Copilot, Claude) effectively within secure engineering practices.
- Strong communication skills and a track record of ownership, delivery, and collaboration with non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience in Asset Management / Financial Services, especially supporting Fixed Income users and workflows.
- Familiarity with Fixed Income instruments (e.g., U.S. Treasuries, IG/HY credit, EM debt, mortgages).
- OMS/platform exposure (e.g., Aladdin, Perform) and/or credit investment platforms (e.g., Allvue Everest).
- Experience with observability tooling (metrics/logging/tracing), performance tuning, and resiliency patterns (timeouts, retries, circuit breakers).
This is a hybrid position. Currently, the hybrid work schedule for this position is 2-3 days in the office. Please understand that the hybrid schedule may be modified or eliminated at any time at Neuberger Berman’s discretion.

Compensation Details
The salary range for this role in Illinois is $130,000-$170,000 and the salary range for the role in New York is $130,000-$170,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.
An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, business sector, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue‑based metrics, market benchmarking data, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, which, along with base salary and retirement contributions, is part of our total comprehensive package.
