In this role, you’ll design, build and maintain the high‑volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you’ll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data.
What you will do
Maintain Performance- Prevent decay and find efficiencies:
Monitor the architecture and identify opportunities to optimize code to maintain and enhance mainframe performance.
- Find and fix:
Debug, troubleshoot, and analyze complex system interactions to keep mission‑critical applications running.
- Bridge the gap:
As an instrumental player in modernization, you’ll extract business logic from legacy systems for migration or integration with cloud‑based services.

Required skills and experience
- Experience working as a software engineer on complex software projects.
- Excellent coding skills and solid development experience (Java, Python, .Net, etc.) with debugging and problem‑solving skills.
- Software development methodologies, with demonstrated experience developing scalable and robust software.

SQL databases, data mapping, XML/JSON, REST‑based web services. - Knowledge of architecture design – Microservices architecture, containers (Docker & k8s), messaging queues.
- Deep understanding of OOP and design patterns.
Preferred skills and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Certification in one or more of the hyperscalers (Azure, AWS, and Google GCP) – otherwise, you can obtain certifications with Kyndryl.
- Experience with Dev Ops tools and modern engineering practices.
The compensation range for the position in the U.S. is $115,080 to $218,520 based on a full‑time schedule. Your actual compensation may vary depending on your geography, job‑related skills and experience. For part‑time roles, the compensation will be adjusted appropriately. The pay or salary range will not be below any applicable state, city or local minimum wage requirement.

- California (San Francisco Bay Area): $138,120 to $262,320
- California (All Other): $126,600 to $240,480
- Colorado: $115,080 to $218,520
- Massachusetts: $115,080 to $240,480
- New York City: $138,120 to $262,320
- Washington: $126,600 to $240,480
- Washington DC: $126,600 to $240,480
This position will be eligible for Kyndryl’s discretionary annual bonus program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Kyndryl’s applicable plans. You may also receive a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical & dental coverage, disability, retirement benefits, paid leave and paid time off.
Note:
If this is a sales commission eligible role, you will be eligible to participate in a sales commission plan in lieu of the annual discretionary bonus program.
