Software Engineer, Backend Developer
Our Chicago based client in the Investment & Asset Management space is seeking a Workflow Platform Developer to own the development, configuration, and continuous improvement of their enterprise workflow platform. This a full time, fully benefited opportunity with strong base compensation plus a robust bonus program. The role is hybrid, with 3 days on site in their Loop office so interested candidates need to currently reside in the greater Chicago area.
This is a highly cross-functional role: you will partner directly with teams across Investments, Investor Relations, Performance, and Operations to translate complex business processes into scalable, automated workflows.
We are looking for candidates with deep expertise in enterprise-grade, low-code
* workflow and rules engine platforms such as Appian, Pega, Decisions, Nintex, or Microsoft Power Automate.
* These platforms use visual interfaces, drag-and-drop configuration, and built-in logic tooling to design and deploy sophisticated applications and automated processes — without writing traditional code for every component. This facilitate accelerated delivery close collaboration with business stakeholders,
Responsibilities- Design, build, and maintain workflows, rules engines, and process automation within the Decisions platform (or equivalent)
- Develop custom integrations between the workflow platform and firm systems including SQL Server, Salesforce, and APIs
- Partner with stakeholders across various teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Serve as the primary point of contact for workflow platform inquiries, enhancements, and issue resolution across all business teams
- Monitor platform performance, identify bottlenecks, and proactively implement improvements
- Enforce best practices around security, access control, and change management within the platform
- Participate in upgrade planning, testing cycles, and vendor coordination with the Decisions product team
- 3+ years of hands-on development experience with an enterprise-grade workflow, BPM, or rules engine platform (Decisions, Appian, Pega, Nintex, Power Automate, or similar)
- Strong understanding of workflow design patterns, process automation, and business rules modeling
- Ability to work directly with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions without heavy mediation
- Background in financial services, private markets, or investment management environments is a big plus
- Genuine curiosity about the private markets domain and a drive to learn the business deeply enough to design truly effective solutions
