Federal Work Study – Biology Lab Assistant Harold Washington Campus – Biology Department Primary Objective

The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields. The Biology Lab Assistant position supports the Biology Department in providing hands‑on laboratory experience aligned with student study areas, assisting in reagent preparation, lab setup, and maintenance.

• Responsible for preparing reagents, solutions, and cleaning glassware.
• Maintain prep labs, including setting up classrooms before labs and cleaning after labs.
• Flexible hours with Monday–Saturday availability.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, professional demeanor, and excellent customer service.
• Receive training before performing tasks.

• Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.
• Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.
• Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of six semester hours of pre‑credit or credit classes.
• Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.
• Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first‑semester new students).
• Applicants must be in “good standing” – no academic restrictions.
• Applicants must not be current full‑ or part‑time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.
• All positions are at‑will employment.

• High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED.
• Enrolled in at least six semester hours of pre‑credit or credit classes.
• Participant in the Student Financial Aid Program and approved for Federal Work Study.
• Successful completion of the CCC hiring process, including criminal background check and drug screening where applicable.
• Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as a City Colleges of Chicago representative.
• Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.

• Salary Range: $17.00 per hour.
