AWC is hiring several Shuttle Drivers for day or night positions – this is a casual (part‑time) position and the shift is 5:30 am‑5:30 pm or 5:30 pm‑5:30 am.
You must be able to work the full shifts on every weekend with some shifts during the week (days & nights) as needed. This position is 100% outdoors driving/moving new vehicles around our yard. Requirements include a valid driver’s license with a good driving record, the ability to pass a drug test and background check. AWC pays weekly and we are an amazing family company.
Competitive pay starts at $32.00 per hour with pay increases based on the collective bargaining agreement.
Job requirements include Yard Up‑fitter and Rail functions. Yard: move vehicles from Plant Release Gate to yard bays, pull vehicles from yard bays to load lines for haul‑away carriers. Up‑fitter Function: drive units to and from up‑fitters, inspect units before and after delivery. Rail: safely drive vehicles onto or off railcars wearing PPE, secure vehicles to railcars according to manufacturer and American Association of Railroad (AAR) standards, and prepare railcars for transportation.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Drive vehicles to and from specified locations in the yard and on and off rail cars.
- Make certain all vehicles are parked in proper locations and bayed.
- Understand and apply all AWC, customer, AAR, safety and quality standards/policies.
- Follow all safety guidelines to guarantee the job is done in a safe manner.
- Identify vehicles and insert documentation as required.
- Inform Managers of any issues that could affect production or quality.
- Log processed work into computer programs or tracking system as required.
- Meet or exceed established production and quality targets.
- Read and match VIN numbers quickly and accurately to ensure movement of proper vehicles.
- Visually verify and inspect vehicles.
- Open or close railcar, raise and lower railcar.
- Secure customer vehicles to railcars by using chocks and tie‑downs.
- Lift, set and pin bridge.
- Operate buck ramps and stationary loading equipment.
- Properly store chocks and tie‑downs.
- Keep work areas, vans, appropriate work attire, etc. clean and organized.
- Notify supervision of any workplace hazards or unsafe conditions immediately upon discovery.
- Report accidents and injuries immediately and follow up with completion of the appropriate forms.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to adhere to strict production and quality standards without variance.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at a height of approximately 15 feet above the ground.
- Ability to lift 55 pounds overhead.
- Ability to push or pull 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (often extreme) for long periods.
- Ability to stand for up to 10 hours or more per shift.
- Ability to get in and out of vehicle driver’s door with minimal door opening clearance.
- Ability to use technology equipment to assist in job duties.
- Ability to function effectively under pressure.
- Ability to communicate with others effectively; work as a team; good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to judge distances.
- Must have the ability to maintain a good sense of balance.
- Ability to keep confidential any work documents seen or conversations heard during performance of job duties.
- Ability to pass Driver’s Safety Test, Rail quiz with 80% or better.
