The Spirit of the Position

The National Director of Maintenance, Transportation supports the day‑to‑day execution of LAZ Transportation’s maintenance operations across regions, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely delivery of maintenance services. Reporting to the National Senior Director of Maintenance
, this role partners closely with regional teams to drive operational excellence, manage vendor and shop relationships (both LAZ and third‑party), and support high volume, time sensitive maintenance workflows.

Serving as the VMS system administrator and a key operational leader, the Director of Maintenance helps translate maintenance strategy into action while upholding the highest standards of safety, service quality, performance, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily maintenance operations for assigned shops and shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted service.
  • Support and provide backup for the annual maintenance budget, aligned with labor hours and planned repairs under the LAZ Transportation preventive maintenance (PM) program.
  • Lead recruitment, screening, and hiring efforts for maintenance personnel.
  • Meet regularly with maintenance staff to ensure proper tools, resources, and understanding of all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and professional development evaluations for assigned team members.
  • Prepare and maintain management, operational, and safety reports to assess departmental and individual performance on a monthly or as‑needed basis.
  • Review, approve, and process all invoices and work orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation of labor, parts, and repair details.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with the Vehicle Maintenance System (VMS) for all maintenance activities.
  • Ensure required quotes, warranty repairs, recalls, and product campaigns are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Collaborate weekly with internal and external department leaders to address operational concerns, review projects, and evaluate performance.
  • Ensure all maintenance tools, specialized equipment, and resources are available and maintained in good working condition.
  • Enforce compliance with all LAZ Transportation policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Maintain full compliance of fleet and facilities to meet or exceed LAZ Transportation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor vehicles serviced by outside vendors and ensure all repairs are properly recorded in VMS in accordance with company policy.
  • Provide P&L and fleet underwriting support as requested.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.
Requirements
  • Must have a valid CDL driver’s license or the ability to obtain a CDL.
Travel
  • At least 25-50% of travel as needed.
  • Must have current travel documents for international travel.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Higher education is preferred.
Experience
  • Proven leadership experience in fleet maintenance, transportation, and/or shuttle operations is preferred.
  • Multi‑site and multi‑state oversight experience required.
