About the Company

Freight Appointments is partnering with a well-established international freight forwarding company located in Chicago's West Loop to identify an experienced Ocean Import Coordinator

Position Overview

The Ocean Import Coordinator will be responsible for managing end-to-end ocean import shipments from origin through final delivery, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle ocean import shipments from booking through final delivery
  • Coordinate with overseas agents, steamship lines, CFS stations, truckers, warehouses, and customs brokers
  • Prepare and process import documentation, including ISF filings, Arrival Notices, Delivery Orders, and related shipment documents
  • Track shipment milestones and proactively communicate updates to customers
  • Ensure timely cargo release, customs clearance, and final delivery coordination
  • Review and process vendor invoices, customer billing, and file profitability
  • Maintain strong communication with customers, carriers, and internal departments
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs regulations and company standard operating procedures
  • Resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, and claims in a timely manner
Requirements
  • 2+ years of ocean import experience within a freight forwarding environment
  • Strong knowledge of ocean import documentation and U.S. Customs regulations
  • Experience working with steamship lines, CFS facilities, trucking companies, and customs brokers
  • Proficiency in Cargo Wise or similar freight forwarding software preferred
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
