This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with STATE AND MUNICIPAL TEAMSTERS, CHAUFFEURS, & HELPERS UNION, LOCAL 700 - BARGAINING UNIT 08. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, coordinates, supervises and inspects the work of Motor Truck Drivers (MTDs) engaged in equipment operation and general maintenance activities; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Supervises and inspects the work of MTDs engaged in operating trucks and heavy automotive equipment
• Assigns and reassigns MTDs to specific projects as necessitated by emergencies or program changes
• Reviews and analyzes a variety of reports concerning unit operations, productivity and tonnage collection data to ensure maximum efficiency
• Establishes standards of procedure for equipment testing and operation
• Prepares daily assignment sheets, project summary and operation reports of work activities
• Ensures the 24-hour availability of personnel during snow emergencies
• Supervises call-out procedures during snow removal operations
• Prepares and maintains snow removal operation reports
• Maintains mileage, oil and gasoline consumption records
• Serves as consultant for problems involving equipment operations
• Assists supervisory personnel in expediting disciplinary actions
• Oversees the training of new employees
• Processes accident and personal injury reports
• Ensures all personnel comply with established policies and procedures
• Conducts periodic checks of licensing requirements for MTDs.

RELATED DUTIES

• Issues parking violations to illegally parked vehicles for towing purposes; verifies types and amount of waste disposal transported to landfill or transfer sites.

A Foreman of Motor Truck Driver in the Chicago Department of Aviation, Department of Transportation, and the Department of Streets and Sanitation

• Ensures the 24-hour availability of personnel during snow emergencies and airport construction.
• Supervises call-out procedures during snow removal operations and airport construction.
• Manages snow removal of streets, airport property, bridge sidewalks, overpasses, etc.
• Prepares and maintains snow removal operation reports.

A Foreman of Motor Truck Driver in the Department of Fleet and Facility Management

• Oversees MTD
  -Tire Repair employees who drive and operate a variety of motor vehicles and power equipment in order to respond to and make service calls to disabled vehicles in the field performing non-skilled, physically demanding manual work changing out and replacing tires on a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy city vehicles. Supervises fuel truck MTD's in the delivery of scheduled fuel routes and emergencies.
  
  Schedules MTDs in the operation of the river cleaning boats. Movement or training of MTD's may be required. Therefore, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "A" with an "X" endorsement is required.

A Foreman of Motor Truck Driver in the Department of Aviation

• Drives on the movement areas of the airfield. Therefore, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "A" or "B" with both a "P" and "X" endorsement as well as airfield driving experience are required (advanced aka red stripe or basic aka yellow stripe driving privileges)
• Candidates who do not have advanced driving privileges must secure the advanced driving certification (aka red stripe driving privileges) within 60 days of employment and maintained throughout employment.
• The candidate(s) selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA).
• Candidates must obtain an Airport SIDA Badge by the first day of airport employment and maintain the badge throughout airport employment.

A Foreman of Motor Truck Driver in the Chicago Public Library Department

• May be required to drive a truck route for the day, including loading and delivering library books, only, if necessary, when the department is short on crew members to complete daily routes.
