Overview
The Public Works-Operations and Maintenance Department is seeking one reliable individual to work with our team at the entry-level position of Maintenance Aide for the Parks division.
This is a trainee position in the maintenance series of classifications. After appropriate training and experience, the Maintenance Aide could reasonably expect to be promoted to Maintenance Worker unless a permanent Maintenance Aide position has been established.
ResponsibilitiesUnder supervision, to perform a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the routine operation of public facilities; to operate Type C power driven equipment; to perform related duties as required.
Knowledge and AbilitiesKnowledge of: Use, maintenance and application of basic hand tools; safe work practices.
Ability:
- Perform heavy manual labor;
- Maintain and establish cooperative working relationships;
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
- Read and write at the level necessary to perform the above.

If permanently assigned to Tree Maintenance:
Some paid experience in the maintenance of trees.
Licenses/CertificationsPossession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
Physical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May drive dump truck and other similar Type C power driven equipment.
