Overview
Greater Chicago Area | Hybrid
We are partnering with a growing organization to hire a Payroll Manager who can lead a complex payroll function with accuracy, control, and a strong employee service mindset.
The Payroll Manager will own payroll operations while improving systems, processes, and reporting. This role requires someone who understands the technical side of payroll and can also lead a team, communicate effectively, and earn the trust of employees and senior leadership.
What You Will Own- Manage accurate and timely payroll processing for employees across multiple states
- Review payroll calculations, deductions, benefits, garnishments, bonuses, and commissions
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll requirements
- Lead payroll tax filings, reconciliations, amendments, and year end reporting
- Partner with Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, and Benefits teams
- Manage payroll related general ledger entries and account reconciliations
- Strengthen payroll controls, documentation, and approval processes
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll questions and escalated employee issues
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors and outside service providers
- Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve the employee experience
- Lead, develop, and support the payroll team
- Approximately seven or more years of progressive payroll experience
- Prior experience managing a complex, multi state payroll environment
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour requirements, and payroll controls
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, UKG, Workday, Ceridian, or applicable system
- Previous team leadership or payroll process ownership
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem solving skills
- Certified Payroll Professional designation is preferred
- Ability to handle confidential information with sound judgment and discretion
- Full ownership of a visible and business critical function
