POSITION TITLE:

English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher – Grades PK-8 PRIMARY FUNCTION

Teachers work directly with students in providing instructional programs that meet the students' individual aspirations, capabilities, interests, and needs. Teachers work with other teachers, staff and administrators in achieving the district goals, department goals, objectives and philosophy. They also develop and maintain effective communication with parents. The teachers report to the building principal. Teachers provide individual instruction to small groups of students identified for targeted academic support.

He/she will also assess students' learning levels and monitor student progress.

  Type 03 or 09 depending on level
• Education:
• Required – Bachelor's Degree in Education
• Preferred – Master's Degree
• Experience:
• Required – Two or more years of successful teaching experience
• Preferred – Prior experience as an ELL teacher preferred.

• In accordance with school policies as established by the Board of Education, the teachers are responsible for supervision of students and for development and implementation of instructional programs for which they are certified. Teachers are responsible for providing information to the administration for the revision and development of new policies regarding the educational programs.
• Ensure that every student enrolling in the school has a copy of the Home language Survey in his/her file.
• Assess the proficiency level of any Limited-English
  -Proficient (LEP) student, using assessment tests currently in place in the district.
• Place students in correct bilingual level within the program.
• Work in close cooperation with the general education teachers of the students receiving resource services.
• Provide instruction comparable in level with the one received by monolingual students.
• Assist in service training of general education staff as to the special needs of LEP students.
• Ensure that students receive the minutes of instruction in both English and their native language as necessary according to their level of proficiency within the program.
• Translation of information sent to parents by the principal, other staff members, PTO, etc. as needed.
• Assist in program implementation evaluation.

• Plan and implement lessons based on College Readiness and Common Core State Standards
• Assess Students' learning levels and track progress toward individualized achievement goals (grades, MAP, ESPA).
• Reinforce expectations regarding student behavior and support the ongoing development of a positive learning environment (PBIS).

• Maintain competency in research-based instructional practices, instructional technology and information literacy standards by participating in appropriate professional development activities (conferences, workshops, summer academies, meetings)
• Collect and maintain student achievement data requested by supervisor
