Position: Weights & Measures Petroleum Inspectors - 2 positions

DATCP currently has an opening for two Weights & Measures Petroleum Inspector positions within the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, Bureau of Weights and Measures.

These Are Field-based Positions And Will Be Assigned a Fleet Vehicle For Work-related Travel. The Selected Applicant Can Select a Headquarter In One Of The Following Counties

  • Position 1:
    Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago County
  • Position 2:
    Brown, Door, and Kewaunee County

Qualifying candidates are not required to live in a county headquarter location. However, reimbursement for commuting to or from the employee’s assigned headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Routine travel within an assigned territory and throughout the state for assigned work and emergency response is required.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for inspection, enforcement, compliance, education and investigation work for the Weights and Measures/Petroleum Inspection program. This position provides highly technical field education, training and consultation to regulated businesses and the general public using knowledge of petroleum products, tank systems, weights and measures requirements and Division protocols.

This position provides for the protection of the environment of the state through education, field inspection, petroleum product testing and enforcement of environmental regulations concerning air quality, groundwater, and soil protection. Works in conjunction with or make referrals to other federal, state or local governmental agencies.

Salary Information

The classification of these positions is Weights & Measures Petroleum System Specialist - Entry
, which is in schedule-range 05-63 with pay between $27.00 - $33.00 per hour based on qualifications.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

Job Details

At DATCP, we strive to deliver efficient and effective programs and services to Wisconsin agriculture, consumers, and businesses. The Department has numerous on-the-job training (OJT) opportunities and transferable skills, unique to each Bureau and position.

These OJT opportunities and transferable skills include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules. This position will be provided the opportunity to obtain the Storage Tank Inspector Certification.
