Sr. Solutions Architect ut the role

In this position, you will play a crucial role in promoting the adoption of the Databricks Unified Analytics Platform specifically within the Public Sector, focusing on State and Local Government (SLED) entities. As a technical advisor, you will guide clients through the processes of architecture design, implementation, and ultimately, the realization of business value from their investments in our platform. You will be part of the Field Engineering team and report directly to the Field Engineering Manager.

What you'll do
  • Work closely with sales teams to showcase how Databricks can effectively solve specific challenges faced by customers.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to facilitate customer evaluations and the adoption of the platform.
  • Consult on the architecture of big data solutions and execute proof of concepts for key initiatives, including those related to machine learning and data science.
  • Validate the technical integration of Databricks with various cloud services and third-party applications to ensure seamless operation.
  • Develop reference architectures, demonstration applications, and instructional materials to assist customers in utilizing the platform effectively.
  • Represent Databricks at industry conferences, webinars, and developer meetups to advocate for open-source projects and innovations.
  • Travel to client locations within your designated region to provide on-site support and consultation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with customer business objectives.
  • Engage in continuous learning to stay updated on industry trends and advancements in data analytics and cloud technologies.
  • Mentor junior team members and share best practices to enhance the overall capabilities of the Field Engineering team.
  • Gather feedback from customers to inform product development and improve service offerings.
  • Participate in the development of strategic initiatives that drive customer success and satisfaction.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in roles related to technical architecture, pre-sales, or consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Public Sector clients, understanding their unique challenges and requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in designing and architecting distributed data systems that meet complex business needs.
  • Capability to program and troubleshoot in at least one of the following languages:
    Python, Scala, Java, SQL, or R.
  • Practical experience in building solutions on major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • In-depth knowledge of data engineering technologies, including but not limited to Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, including Online Transaction Processing (OLTP), Online Analytical Processing (OLAP), and Decision Support Systems (DSS).
  • Must possess U.S. citizenship due to the nature of the work and potential access to controlled technologies.
Nice to have
  • A degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Operations Research, which would enhance your analytical capabilities.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing technical role, particularly within the public sector.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks and practices, which could add value to your contributions.
Skills & tools
  • Proficient in Apache Spark for big data processing.
  • Knowledgeable in Delta Lake for managing data lakes.
  • Experienced with MLflow for managing the machine learning lifecycle.
  • Understanding of Koalas for pandas-like APIs on Apache Spark.
  • Strong background in Data Engineering and Data Warehousing principles.
  • Familiar with cloud infrastructure services across AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • This role may require access to export-controlled technology or source code, which could necessitate obtaining a U.S. government license at the employer's discretion.
  • Compensation for this position is determined based on individual qualifications, including skills, experience, certifications, and geographic location.
